Research Interests

Research interests include phonetics and phonology, Michif language, Western Algonquian languages, language revitalization, English and French in the Canadian Prairies, lexicography of endangered languages.

I am currently working on 4 projects:

Word-building in Michif, investigating Michif morpho-syntax and building an online dictionary to be made public by end 2011.

Descriptive comparison of French on the Prairies: Analysis of interviews from Francophone Albertans and Manitobans, including Métis French speakers.

Acoustic analysis of French and English of Bilingual Albertans (co-investigator, with Fangfang Li): Comparison of phonetically similar sounds in each language system.

English in Southern Alberta, investigating dialectal differences in Southern Alberta English, taking into account social and linguistic factors.

Students interested in any of these topics are welcome to speak to me about possible research projects or graduate studies. I often hire qualified students as research assistants.
