Biography

Bonnie Lee, Ph.D., is Professor in Health Sciences (Addictions Counselling Program). She is also a Research Affiliate of the Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy. Dr. Lee was awarded the University of Lethbridge Board of Governors Research Chair (Tier II) in Healthy Futures (2016-2019), a prestigious appointment that recognizes her excellence and international reputation for her research and leadership in advancing a relational framework in the addiction field.

Dr. Lee obtained her doctoral degree from the University of Ottawa with two postdoctoral fellowships in the same institution. Prior to settling in Lethbridge, she had resided in nine cities around the world. She is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor with the Canadian Association for Marriage Family and Therapy, a Clinical Fellow with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Registered Social Worker.

In 2023, Dr. Lee founded the Graduate Certificate Program in Couple and Family Counselling Studies to equip those in the fields of health, social science and health services management with a systemic and relational paradigm to view challenges and create multi-dimensional solutions. https://www.ulethbridge.ca/future-student/graduate-studies/couple-and-family-counselling-studies-gc

She received the Distinguished Contribution Recognition from the Alberta Association of Marriage and Family Therapy in 2010. She was also awarded the YWCA (Lethbridge) Woman of Distinction Award in the Spirit of Women category in 2010. Her Congruence Couple Therapy, adopted by Addiction Services, Edmonton, is named a 2023 Distinguished Initiative by the Health Quality Council of Alberta in their Patient Experience Awards, celebrating programs that improve patient access and experience in Alberta's health-care services.

In her career, she has received international appointments at six universities across the world.
